FAQ

Where did you get that name Delk's House of Grace?  I unfortunately at this time cannot explain the entirety of why I chose the name I did. There's a secret !!! As seen below, this is some news to come, that I SO look forward to sharing with you. Seriously Can't Wait!    However on the reasons/what I can tell you... Delk is my family's name.  This blog is about my family, as well as my God.  His grace abounds as I continue through life and try to figure things out.  I want our house, as well as my family, and everything I say to point to his grace in my life.  Nobody is ever perfect, but through the gospel we are made new day after day. His grace in my life is abundant.

How do you pronounce your last name?
Our name is Delk.  There is no B included. There is a D as in dog. There is only one syllable, not 2 or 5 or 7.  The L is not silent.  It is also unfortunately not the same as the popular department store.  It is however pronounced like it, but with a D.  Kind of like a deer and elk combined.  Let's say it now all together... Delk.   Ha! In all sincerity, it continually amazes me how many variations we get! Before we got married my husband graduated from college as they announced Deck.  He asked if I minded being the future Mrs. Deck.  Nope don't mind at all dear.

Where did your last name come from? It's kinda odd...   My last name came from my Husband :)  He gifted me with that one.  He states that it is Scandinavian in origin, but it is also very English.  It has been an adjustment going from my familiar Taylor origins to a name so many have difficulties with, but I totally wouldn't change it.

Does your Husband have a first name?  Sorry I haven't made mention much before, but it is in fact William, Will for short. I refer to him as William Wilder- his full name if i'm in a lovey mood or if he's in trouble. I think he's pretty used to it by now.

When did you start painting and how did you learn? Ummm I think i was probably 2.  I self declared I was going to be an artist when I grew up at the ripe age of 5.  I mostly just taught myself, but did take art once I got in high school for a couple of years.

So your love story says you're musical?   Music has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up playing piano-though I am pretty horrible at it.  I was also in a singing/dance performance group when I was in high school that helped an introvert become an extrovert, and helped me build self confidence. At this time I performed at wait for it... Disneyworld! fun bragging point...but wasn't a huge huge deal.  I also was in choirs and ensembles in high school throughout my last year in college along with a smear of musicals and solo performances here and there.  I majored in music (voice) for 3 years while in college. I also sang in a praise band in our baptist student union my freshmen and sophomore years in college.   Yup that's my musical history in a nutshell.

Where did you get your ideas for recipes, and projects?  Pinterest!! I love this modern marvel guys! I will admit I am an addict.  I always love to put my on spin on things, but love gathering ideas here. I also come up with a few of my own things.  In cooking I usually cook to taste.  I also grew up in the kitchen helping my mom.  Those are some of my favorite memories, so I count her as my inspiration there.  I also grew up watching my dad make furniture and things.  He was the worlds best at projects, and figuring out any kink, so i count him as an inspiration there as well.

How long did you and your husband date before you got married?  A year and 3 months?... then we got engaged for 5 more months.

How long have you been sick? I actually got sick right after my husband and I said I do.  Convenient right?  We were married just 2 short months before my body went haywire, though I had some sporadic symptoms before that off and on.  He is an amazing supporter. It is getting close to 2 years now, but i'm feeling much better.

What do you do for a living?  I am a mental health therapist, I have my degree in educational psychology and masters in counseling. At this point in my recovery process I am at home for a little while. My last job was working in a nursing home, but have worked in a psych hospital, and in an outpatient mental health setting. I'm a helper and love to study and learn about people. My husband is a research engineer, degree in mechanical engineering.  He likes math, lots of math... and figuring out how stuff works/fixing problems.

Do you have Children?  Nope not quite yet.   Unless of course you count my furbaby.  We have an amazing Australian Shepherd named Kaia with big blue eyes.  She's the best.  She happens to be very animated, and remarkably a lot like my husband and I. Yup that would be klutziness, immune system, and allergies from me ha, abundance of energy and love for all things frisbee from my husband.   She's pretty spoiled too. Everybody say it... "awww."

Do you want Children?   Absolutely! If God so chooses to bless us :)  I can now tell you we are starting the process to adopt our first child! We are very very excited God has called us to this! We CAN NOT WAIT to meet our future child :) We do at this time still plan to try for bio kids one day when I'm healthier as well.

So you're adopting? I have a million questions on that... You can find out more on adoption on our adoption fundraising page. There is a link there to a post from when I first announced our adoption that I think will help answer any questions! :)
